It is often useful to install phpCMS on the local machine, to save money or testing. This requires a running web server and a functional PHP installation.

You can get "ready-made" distributions of the needed software here:

[edit] Apache Friends (XAMPP / LAMP / WAMPP)

XAMPP is a distribution of Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl that makes it possible to install these programs in a very simple way.

At present there are two XAMPP distributions:

• LAMPP, the distribution for Linux (tested for SuSE, Mandrake or Debian), and
• WAMPP, the distribution for Windows 98, NT, 2000 and XP.

EasyPHP is a complete software package allowing to use all the power and the flexibility that offers the dynamic language PHP and the effecient use of databases. The package includes an Apache server, a MySQL database, a full PHP execution environment, as well as easy development tools for your web site or your applications.
